I was born in 1955 in Kitega, a provincial town in Urundi, Africa. Needless to say that I had an exotic youth. When I was 15, I engaged as a sailor on a general-cargoboat of the Compagnie Maritime Belge, and went on a voyage from Belgium to South Africa and Mozambique. At the age of 17 I got my license as a glider pilot and I was selected to represent Belgium at the International Aircadets Exchange in the USA. These adventurous impressions would prove very important for my later artwork. I studied painting at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium. I won the Price Vincke Soeurs, of the City of Antwerp for being the “best” of class. I went on studying restoration at the Royal Institute for the Art Patrimony (KIK/ IRPA) in Brussels. I translated “Il Libro dell’ Arte”(The Craftsman’s Handbook), by Cennino Cennini into Dutch. This last remaining fourteenth century tract shows the techniques of Giotto and his contemporaries. It was published by “Contact”, a Dutch publisher. I became a professor in the Art Academies of several cities: Hoboken, Berchem, Wilrijk, Antwerp. Since 1993 I have been headmaster of the Academy of Fine Arts of Liedekerke, Ninove, Gooik, Opwijk, Geraardsbergen, Asse, a school with over a thousand students in different locations. My artwork has been exhibited in, amongst other places, Antwerp, Brussels, Spa, Paris (France), Senlis (France), Steinfurt (Germany), ...
